Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has split from the partner he met on Celebs Go Dating over the summer.
While appearing on the Channel 4 series, he had a tough time finding a connection but eventually found a spark with David.
However, just two weeks after the final episode aired, in which Stephen declared that David was ‘phenomenal’, it is over.
‘I think there’s something special here. It has been phenomenal. I’ve loved every minute of it,’ he told experts Anna Williamson, Paul C Brunson, and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, who helped to matchmake them.
Stephen, 53, added that he was ‘over the moon’ to have a ‘hottie’ on his arm.
When the cameras stopped rolling, they attempted to give things a go despite the distance between them – Stephen is based in Brighton, while David lives in Guernsey – but a shocking discovery is said to have led to their demise.
It is claimed that Stephen found out that David was dating other people, and was even on a dating app.
‘David thought Stephen wouldn’t find out because they lived so far apart and he wanted to carry on seeing other people,’ a source told The Sun.
‘It’s definitely over, there’s no going back. Stephen is not interested and he wasn’t a fan of the distance anyway.’
Stephen joined Celebs Go Dating after breaking up from his husband Daniel Lustig. The couple, who starred on Gogglebox together before quitting in 2023, announced their split officially in April after months of separation.
The romantic side of their relationship may be over after 11 years, but they remain close friends. The pair have even continued living together, and Daniel, 49,even helped Stephen pick outfits for his dates.
‘I’m not going to never be friends with him. Do I think I’ll ever find someone like Daniel again? He’s going to be a hard one to beat,’ Stephen gushed while speaking to the dating experts.
Regardless, they both began to ‘check out of the marriage’ and Stephen wanted a divorce.
‘The day I told him, we cancelled everything, went to the shops, bought lots of chocolate, crisps and sweets, sat indoors and spoke about our relationships, when we met, all the amazing things we’ve done together, we went through it all and it was really cathartic,’ he recalled.
Despite being one of the most popular sofa critics on Gogglebox, Stephen came under fire and even broke down in tears over fears he may ‘come across like an old pervert’ after deciding to date considerably younger men.
His behaviour on the 1-1 meetings didn’t always go down well either. Date Dean said he felt ‘humiliated’ after Stephen asked him about his w**king habits.
Ella Morgan, who he formed a close friendship with, rushed to his defence in an interview with Metro.co.uk.
‘Stephen is my best friend, and I know we’re going to be best friends forever,’ Ella told us.
‘We spent the last few days together and I said: “I know who you are, and I know your sense of humour. Some people will like you, some people won’t”. I remind him it’s a TV show, and the ones that are going to scream out and say horrible things online, they’re not worth it.’
Metro.co.uk contacted Stephen Webb’s representatives for comment, who claimed the source quotes are accurate.
Celebs Go Dating is available to watch on Channel 4.
